Couples Therapy

LGBTQ+ Couples Therapy in Athens, GA

Break the patterns. Rebuild connection. Create a relationship that feels different.

You don't have to be on the verge of a breakup to benefit from couples therapy. And you don't have to wait until things feel unbearable to ask for help.

As someone in the LGBT community, I felt it was important to offer couples therapy for LGBT couples who want to understand the patterns keeping them stuck, strengthen their connection, and build healthier ways of relating to one another. Relationships don't exist in a vacuum. Our identities, families, histories, and experiences shape how we love, communicate, handle conflict, and seek connection. You deserve a therapeutic space where you don't have to explain or defend the fundamentals of who you are before you can begin working on your relationship.

Whether you're navigating recurring conflict, emotional disconnection, a major life transition, or simply wanting to deepen your relationship, therapy can help you move beyond the same old conversations and begin creating meaningful change.

My Approach to Couples Therapy

Understanding the pattern, not just the argument

It's easy to get caught up in the details of a disagreement: who said what, who started it, and who needs to apologize. But underneath recurring conflict, there are often deeper patterns that keep both partners feeling hurt, unseen, or disconnected.

In our work together, we'll begin identifying those patterns and understanding how each of you contributes to the dynamic. Rather than deciding who is right or wrong, we'll work toward greater awareness, accountability, and new ways of responding to one another.

Relational Life Therapy (RLT)-informed work

My couples work is informed by Relational Life Therapy (RLT), an approach developed by Terry Real that emphasizes relational patterns, personal responsibility, and meaningful change.

Rather than focusing only on communication techniques, this approach looks at what's happening between partners and what each person can do differently to create a healthier relationship.

We'll work toward recognizing unhelpful patterns, communicating more honestly, taking responsibility for your impact, and practicing new ways of relating that support connection, respect, and intimacy.
