EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
Simply put - this is a type of therapy that traditionally uses eye movement or bilateral stimulation that facilitates healing from symptoms and emotional distress from past life experiences or disturbing memories.
How Can This Help Me?
From emdria.org: “EMDR therapy does not require talking in detail about the distressing issue or completing homework between sessions. EMDR therapy, rather than focusing on changing the emotions, thoughts, or behaviors resulting from the distressing issue, allows the brain to resume its natural healing process. EMDR therapy is designed to resolve unprocessed traumatic memories in the brain.”
How Long Does It Take?
It depends. EMDR is known for taking less time than traditional talk therapy to produce results but it’s different for everyone depending on what they are working through. EMDR can also be done in intensive sessions that are 2+ hours long to facilitate less tie to achieve results. EMDR is recommended to be done on a weekly or biweekly basis.
Can we do a combination of EMDR and talk therapy?
Yes definitely! Some clients prefer to do only EMDR, target the issue, have that end goal and end therapy. Other client’s prefer to do a combination of talk therapy and EMDR where we can process things in more than one way.
Do you offer in-person or online therapy sessions? I do both! I generally prefer in-person, but I am happy to do online sessions as well. Online sessions are conducted through a HIPAA-compliant client portal.
What's your schedule? I see clients 10am - 7 pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9 - 5 on Thursdays and 8-12 on Fridays and do work on some Saturday mornings as well by request.
What are your rates? Intakes and regular 50-60 minute sessions are $150. I do extended EMDR sessions by request and those are done at a prorated rate depending on the length of time we decide.
Do you offer sliding scale? I do offer a limited number of sliding scale spots. If this is needed we can discuss this option.
How often would we have appointments? This is up to you, if possible and depending on the reasons for seeking therapy weekly to start out is typically recommended and then scaling back from there to biweekly, monthly, etc. I am open to whatever you feel most comfortable with!
